Happy Easter from Conch Charters
The gang at Conch Charters would like to wish you all a Happy Easter!
The BVI Spring Regatta got off to a good start at the beginning of this month with the forecast predicting winds gusting up 20 knots!
Last month many of our charters had a whale-of-a-time whilst on their way to Anegada…
…Humpbacks were spotted, some of which breached right in front of boats! Great photo opportunity- send us your shots!
Coming down to visit us soon? Look out for our new designs of Conch Charters t-shirts! Photos to follow soon…
Did you know…
…that the BVI has recently been designated a shark sanctuary?
In May 2014 3933 square miles of territorial waters were assigned as a sanctuary for sharks, banning commercial fishing of these predators. The BVI is only the third region in the Caribbean to declare this safe haven, the other two being the Bahamas and Honduras. We hope this sparks a trend and others will also declare a sanctuary later this year!
So why are sharks so important? Some of you may conch-out when you see them, others may chase after them with enthusiasm but these beings are a vital part of our marine eco-system all over the world. All of us at Conch Charters support this change!
Conch’s Fab Spot of the Month
A fire tragically destroyed the old Pirates restaurant in September 2012! It was completely re-built and opened again for business just a few months later after some very speedy construction work- the builders were definitely not working on ‘island time’.
Located within The Bight on Norman Island, Pirates is a popular spot for both Lunch and Dinner. They have a vast array of dishes to choose from on their menu- from Conch Fritters to Baby Back Ribs, I’m sure you will find something to tempt you.
Enjoy one of their famous ‘Rum Buckets” or Bushwhackers in a comfy lounge chair whilst watching the stingrays and tarpons cruise by in the shallows. Or better yet, join in with a game of giant Jenga on the beach- get everyone involved as the tower begins to wobble!
On site you will also find a boutique with a selection of items to choose from and a Dive Shop where you can rent SCUBA equipment and other watersports toys.
Don’t forget to go hunting for gold in the Caves at Treasure Point!
Blend together with ice until smooth. Then to serve, pour into a large goblet and top up with Coke.
Don’t forget the wedge of lime! Watch the sun disappear, preferably in the BVI from your cockpit!
Testing Question
Name the Restaurant?
Located just above Leverick Bay on Virgin Gorda you can enjoy superb views from it’s wrap around deck of the North Sound and if your lucky, Anegada. Many people have enjoyed a cocktail or two whilst watching stunning sunsets from the decking.
Hint: One of the drinks on the menu is a ‘Blondie Special’, named after the owner!
